THE LOUDEST VOICE TELLING YOU TO STAY SMALL IS your own.
The three things I changed to stop listening to it.
For a long time I played small. Even when I was capable, I made myself smaller. Even when something went well, I found a way to minimize it.
I spent the time. I spent the money. I went through the whole patent process. Then I had the product finished, in my hands, and I didn't put it out there because I was worried about what people would say.
Here's what I had to change first. It takes 90 seconds to say, and it took me years to work out.
1
Challenge the story you tell yourself.
The four-word question I ask about every belief that's keeping me small and what to do with the inner critic, who doesn't leave but can be negotiated with.
2
Stop letting fear and other people's opinions drive your life.
You will never make everyone happy. Spend long enough worrying about what everyone thinks, and you lose track of what you think.
3
Choose courage, even when you're uncomfortable.
You don't have to wait until you feel confident. Sometimes the confidence arrives after the leap.
You, maybe.
Maybe you're stuck right now.
Maybe you've been playing small.
Maybe you've been letting fear speak louder than your dreams, or apologizing for taking up space.
Maybe you're just ready for something more.

I'm Amy.
I couldn't find a sports bra that fit a fuller chest, so I cut up the ones I already owned until I'd built one that did. That design is patented.
Then I froze. Being stuck wasn't the manufacturing or the fabric or the fit, though I've had trouble with all three. It was what I believed about putting my own work in front of people.
I have a 14-year-old daughter. I want her to know she can be vulnerable, take up space, speak up for herself, take risks, make mistakes, and dream big. I can tell her that, or I can be a woman she watches do it.
I'm still nervous. I'm still not sure what people will think. It's worth it to get it right.
Unstuck is in fittings now, and I'm sharing the whole thing as it happens, including the parts that go wrong.
90 seconds. Three things.
Living unstuck doesn't mean you never get stuck again. It means you know how to find your way out.
